Weekly Letter 24 - 15th March 2024

Greetings from Currie Kirk - 15th March 2024

A Message from our Intermin Moderator:

A couple of years ago, I had to have Physiotherapy for a problem with my back. I was very diligent, did my exercises faithfully and the back problem resolved. At my last physio appointment the therapist said to me, ‘Now keep doing your exercises.’ But of course, when the problem went, so did my commitment to the exercises. Every so often, the issue flares up again….and then I remember to do my exercises. How often is that the case, that as soon as a problem seems to disappear, we forget about it and return to old ways – and in my case, bad postural habits!

That’s frequently the case with prayer too. In a time of stress or anxiety our prayer life is diligent and faithful, only to take a back seat again when the immediate problem seems better.

During Lent, when we focus on deepening and strengthening our relationship with God, prayer is one of the key disciplines and our Lent Study group has focussed on prayer. We know that Jesus spent much time in prayer as he made his journey towards Jerusalem. This Lent, we are not short of things to pray about. Our minds are full of the horrors in the Middle East and in Ukraine; the strange weather this winter reminds us that Climate change has not gone away; and we have had a time of bereavement and illness within the congregation.

In these troubled times, the lovely words from Philippians speak to us ‘Do not worry about anything but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God.’ Amidst all the things we pray for this Lent, it is good to be reminded also to give thanks.

I give thanks this week for time spent away on holiday and share with you a photo from our time away.

Blessings

Anne
