Greetings from Currie Kirk - Friday 30th May 2025.

A message from our Interim Moderator Rev Dr Anne Logan:

We recently spent a weekend at a well-known Perthshire Hotel with our family. As a family, we have been going there for more years than we care to count. Indeed, my husband has been there, every year except the Pandemic year since he was six weeks old and one of our grandsons was only ten days old the first time he stayed there. There is something special about going on holiday somewhere which is very familiar - there is a sense of homecoming. But, it has to be said, one of the first things the children do, is have a tour round – to see what has changed or is different from their last visit. This year, there were some big changes, which might take some getting used to!

Most of us often go back to places we have been before and enjoy the familiarity, but most of us also enjoy visiting new places. But even in a new place, somewhere we have never been, there are usually things that are familiar or remind us of home – we catch an accent that sounds familiar; we see children playing; we see washing hanging out on the line; we smell the aroma of cooking or baking as we pass someone’s home.

This week saw churches worldwide mark Ascencion Day – a day which reminds us that although Jesus was no longer present physically with his disciples in a specific area of Galilee, Jesus is, with God and the Holy Spirit, present everywhere. For the first disciples, no longer having Jesus physically with them marked a huge change, but through it all too, they found that the important things were still the same. Jesus was still with them and they still could trust in the love and promises of God.

6 So when they had come together, they asked him, “Lord, is this the time when you will restore the kingdom to Israel?” 7 He replied, “It is not for you to know the times or periods that the Father has set by his own authority. 8 But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.” 9 When he had said this, as they were watching, he was lifted up, and a cloud took him out of their sight. 10 While he was going and they were gazing up toward heaven, suddenly two men in white robes stood by them. 11 They said, “Men of Galilee, why do you stand looking up toward heaven? This Jesus, who has been taken up from you into heaven, will come in the same way as you saw him go into heaven.” (ACTS 1; 6 – 11)

Blessings! Anne
