A message from our Interim Moderator Rev Dr Anne Logan:
I hope that you all had a very happy Easter! For many, I suspect, it involved Easter Worship, perhaps some holiday time, perhaps some time with family …..and chocolate! For the disciples, Easter Day, the day of Resurrection marked the beginning of something new. It was quite a lot to get their heads around – they had seen Jesus crucified and buried – now he was alive again! Unsurprisingly, they were anxious and afraid. How could something so wonderful be true? If it was true what did it mean? What were they supposed to do next? We, who know the story, know what happened next, but for the disciples, these weeks after Easter were a time of transition and uncertainty. Jesus when he appeared amongst them was quick to reassure – ‘Peace be with you.’ But in the midst of their uncertainty and disbelief, the disciples recognised Jesus in the ordinary things of life: His voice in the garden; the sharing of food; the marks on his hands and his side. In these embodied actions, the disciples recognised the Resurrected Jesus.
‘While they were talking about this, Jesus himself stood among them and said to them, “Peace be with you.” They were startled and terrified, and thought that they were seeing a ghost. He said to them, “Why are you frightened, and why do doubts arise in your hearts? Look at my hands and my feet; see that it is I myself. Touch me and see; for a ghost does not have flesh and bones as you see that I have.” And when he had said this, he showed them his hands and his feet. While in their joy they were disbelieving and still wondering, he said to them, “Have you anything here to eat?” They gave him a piece of broiled fish, and he took it and ate in their presence. Then he said to them, “These are my words that I spoke to you while I was still with you—that everything written about me in the law of Moses, the prophets, and the psalms must be fulfilled.” (Luke 24; 36 – 44)
I am delighted to be able to share with you, that the Rev Roy Henderson has been appointed as Interim Minister for Currie and Balerno. Roy is a minister of considerable experience and comes to us from Glasgow: Pollockshaws. Roy will begin meeting with Interim Moderators and Kirk Sessions after the 13th of June. Presbytery will arrange a service of Introduction, sometime in the second half of June and Roy will begin to conduct worship in the linked charge on the Sunday after that service. We will announce the dates as soon as those are available. I am sure you will give Roy a true Currie welcome.
Blessings!
Anne
