Weekly Letter 7 - 3rd November 2023

Greetings from Currie Kirk - 3rd November 2023

A message from our Interim Moderator Rev Dr Anne Logan:

‘Halloween’ followed by’ Guy Fawkes night’, I always think this is a strange week in our calendar. First we have the groups of children out guising door to door and then the noise and commotion of bonfires and fireworks. It means that we sometimes lose sight of an important Christian celebration, ‘Halloween’ or ‘All Hallows Eve,’ is followed on the 1st of November by ‘All Saints Day.’ As we think back over our own lives, this is a time to acknowledge all those who have influenced us on our Christian journey. Perhaps we think of grandparents and parents, of teachers or Sunday School teachers, of ministers or assistant ministers. For each of us, there will be a whole group of people that we remember. In a time of change in our Church life, it is good for us to remember too, the faithful witness of the thousands of Currie Kirk members who have gone before us and left such a legacy. In the letter to the Hebrews, chapter 12, we read:

Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight and the sin that clings so closely,[a] and let us run with perseverance the race that is set before us, 2 looking to Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith, who for the sake of[b] the joy that was set before him endured the cross, disregarding its shame, and has taken his seat at the right hand of the throne of God.

We commit ourselves, this All Saints season, to run with perseverance, the race that is set before us.

Blessings! Anne

We offer profound apologies for the postponement of the Congregational Meeting last Sunday. In the light of the severe weather and the rising flood waters at the bridge, those present voted to postpone this meeting until the 19th November at 12 noon. We look forward to seeing you then.
