Weekly Letter 16 - 12th January 2024

Greetings from Currie Kirk - 12th January 2024

A message from our Interim Moderator Rev Dr Anne Logan:

Over the last few months, the congregation has been able to enjoy many different preachers and leaders of worship. You’ve experienced many different styles and personalities. Over the next few months, that is likely to continue, so this seems a good moment to pause and reflect on Worship. It would be very easy to allow that to become a list of things we like or dislike in our services, but that is not the point. Worship is not about us, or what we like. Worship is about God. Worship is about honouring and praising God from the depths of our being. Worship is not something that happens to us, it is something we offer. It doesn’t matter how gifted or hopeless a preacher or worship leader may be, the vital part of worship is that the hearts and minds of a congregation are open to God.

1 O come, let us sing to the LORD; let us make a joyful noise to the rock of our salvation!

2 Let us come into his presence with thanksgiving; let us make a joyful noise to him with songs of praise!

3 For the LORD is a great God and a great King above all gods.

4 In his hand are the depths of the earth; the heights of the mountains are his also.

5 The sea is his, for he made it, and the dry land, which his hands have formed.

6 O come, let us worship and bow down; let us kneel before the LORD, our Maker!

7 For he is our God, and we are the people of his pasture and the sheep of his hand. (Psalm 95)

Over the next few weeks in these letters, we’ll consider different aspects of worship – readings, prayers, hymns, then, as we look to the future, we will be able to think about our worship and how it might develop and grow to meet the needs of our changing community.

Blessings!

Anne
