Weekly Letter 12 - 8th December 2023

Greetings from Currie Kirk - 8th December 2023

A message from our Interim Moderator Rev Dr Anne Logan:

When my sisters and I were young, we enjoyed car journeys at Christmas time rather more than we did for the rest of the year. We whiled away the time by counting the number of Christmas trees that we could see in house windows as we passed. Now my grandchildren do something similar, but they are not so much counting simple Christmas trees, but decorated houses. Sometimes, I wonder about some of those decorations – I am not sure I can quite see the relationship between a gigantic inflatable dinosaur and Christmas!

Part of our family lives in a very new housing estate. The owners of those houses have really gone to considerable lengths to decorate their homes and gardens for Christmas. There are reindeer; snowmen; candy canes; light curtains; projected snow showers and lots of Santas. It all transforms the little community, bringing light in the darkness.

In this Advent season as we wait again to celebrate the birth of the true light of the world, we remember that Jesus calls us to be light in the darkness of the world around us.

“You are the light of the world. A city built on a hill cannot be hid. People do not light a lamp and put it under the bushel basket; rather, they put it on the lampstand, and it gives light to all in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father in heaven. (Matthew 5; 14 – 16)

In the darkness of our world today, let us resolve to do what we can to bring Christ’s light,

Blessings! Anne
