A message from Rev Roy Henderson, Interim Minister
Balerno linked with Currie – 1/11/25
It is the morning of Saturday November 1at before the ‘Partnership Support Group Meeting’ at Gibson Craig Hall. At the time of writing I don’t know what matters will be raised by those who come along.
Whatever is said or shared at the ‘PSG’ it will help to frame the agenda of Balerno linked with Currie as you negotiate your way towards and beyond the union of the two churches.
Such unions are taking place across Scotland, in Glasgow where I have come from and here in the Edinburgh area. This has come about since the General Assembly of 2021 which required Presbyteries ‘to plan mission within their bounds’. In this, the Church of Scotland seeks to:-
• underscore the Church’s priority as participating in Christ’s mission.
• set down a definition of that mission.
• provide a framework for a Presbytery to express that priority in forming a rolling five-year Mission Plan.
• enable a group of Presbyteries anticipating union to work together on a Mission Plan.
• ensure that a Presbytery makes best use of the ministry posts allocated to it by the General Assembly.
• insist that a Presbytery take decisions about the future of Church buildings.
• provide a range of ways in which a Presbytery may structure and resource Church life.
• engage the Faith Action Programme Leadership Team and the General Trustees in assisting Presbytery in their planning.
That, I know, is a lot to take in. All committed parties here in Balerno linked with Currie have a shared task. That task is to shape or reshape church life to address the contemporary situation here and now.
Holy and living God,
who leads, accompanies and empowers your people;
these are tender times,
our world has changed so much,
and is changing every day.
Lead us in our conversations,
accompany us in our decision-making
and empower us to move onwards in faith,
even when we are afraid.
We pray in the name of Jesus, who is the Way. Amen.
Roy Henderson, Interim Minister
