Christmas Week News 2025

Greetings from Currie Kirk - Christmas Week 2025

A message from Rev Roy Henderson:

A Short Christmas Message and an invitation

Hello and greetings to you all for the impending Christmas season.

As I write, I am listening back to a Radio 6 Music programme featuring  intriguing arrangements of Christmas carols, pop, folk, jazz ,rock and some more ’out there’ arrangements. This reminds me that despite seasonal talk of ‘the true meaning of Christmas being lost’, or of a ‘War on Christmas’, in fact the Nativity story is a robust and deathless account of ‘God with Us. It persists full of grace and truth whatever history, culture and changing fashion throw at it. Gaudete!

Anyway, I just want to wish everyone well and invite you to take part in some festive fun …

This year’s Christmas Day Service is at Currie Kirk on Christmas morning.

If you are coming along and wish to join in, please write a Christmas limerick that we can read out during the service. (Or, if you cannot join us, you might still like to contribute …).

The limerick can be a retelling of the Bible stories of the birth of Jesus, it could be about the Christmas season, or your personal ‘take’ on ‘Nativity now’. You may be serious or light-hearted. Over to you.

As a starter for 10, someone might like to engage with the challenge posed by this example of the genre:

God’s plan made a hopeful beginning.

But man spoiled his chances by sinning.

We trust that the story

Will end in God’s glory,

But at present the other side’s winning.

(Oliver Wendell Holmes, ‘God’s Plan’.)

Who is up for the challenge?

PS – I saw this done in Glasgow and it was very good. Surely Edinburgh doesn’t want to be outdone by us in the west? ;-)

 Happy Christmas, Roy
