Steering Group Update - 12th August 2026
The meeting was opened with prayer & reading from Matthew 18 v15-19.
Matters Arising from previous meeting
Questionnaires - approx 50 have been completed & submitted.
Deadline for return extended to 13/09/26.
It was agreed that SG have another Away Day to discuss the submissions - this will be on 16th September.
Committees
It is hoped that the Joint Committees will meet by the end of September and report back to the Joint Kirk Session on 5th October re progress made.
Each Committee should concentrate on 3 points, as per the Congregational Action Plan.
The Mill Cafe will remain as a standalone committee.
Soul Mates to move from Pastoral Care to Worship.
Elders
Currie Kirk - 3 elders have decided to take on Emeritus status. This brings number of Emeritus elders at Currie Kirk to 7. The number of Trustee Elders is now 20.
Accurate, up to date numbers, for both churches are required by the Joint Kirk Session meeting on 24th August 2026.
Basis of Union
Jane Smart, EWLP, has stated that Edinburgh is required in the new name of our joint church so it will be
Edinburgh:Kirk of Currie and Balerno
Church of Scotland.
She has also said that a Basis of Severence document will be required.
Jane and a colleague will attend the Joint Kirk Session on 24th August.
As a further note, Presbytery have intimated ( communicated on 13/8/26) that the vote on the Basis of Union will take place on 24/8/26 with each KS voting in separate halls, within Gibson Craig Hall.
The plan would then be for the Congregations to vote on the Union. These would again be witnessed by members of the EWLP.
Treasurer
Confirmation has been received that the current Treasurer at BPC has agreed to continue in the role at the unified church. The question of a need for a Book Keeper remains to be settled.
Gift Aid administrators from BPC and CK have met . Both are happy to work together into the Union.
AOCB
The Redeemer Church , based in Colinton Village, have outgrown their premises and have requested a 2 year let of Gibson Craig Halls each Sunday , 9am - 1pm.
Further examination of this request and its implications is required.
