Greetings from Currie Kirk - 06.05.2026

WEEKLY NEWS

Steering Group Update

The Steering Group met on Wednesday 29th April.  There was a full attendance and enthusiastic discussion.

Communicating Work of Steering Group with Kirk Sessions & Congregations- in addition to the written report of meetings, members of the Steering Group who are not members of the Kirk Sessions have been invited to attend their respective KS meetings. Balerno’s next meeting is on 6th May whilst Currie’s is on 11th May.

Session Clerks to be included in the list of recipients of report.

Fact Finding & Parish Profile(s) - work continues to produce a single source of truth and data. There are many similarities with the 2 churches. There was discussion around participating in Eco Congregation ; both churches have been members of the organisation but their memberships have lapsed.

There was talk of a new logo and motto but we will have to wait until we have decided upon a name for the united church before choosing something suitable.

An Action Plan covering a minimum of 3 years will be required before we can call a minister. This is a great opportunity to look forward.

Church Names - a list of over 70 suggestions was circulated. Some of the names are very similar so this number has been reduced to 26. There will be a 2 stage vote by the 2 congregations. The list of suggested names will be in alphabetical order. The first vote will be on Sunday 10th May with the second vote,on a shortened list, on Sunday 24th May. 2 members from the Steering Group will count the votes at each Church.

Church Treasurer Update - a meeting with the 2 current Treasurers has taken place. In addition to the role of Treasurer , there is a suggestion of a Book Keeper being employed to assist the Treasurer. The 2 Treasurers have been asked to work together to create Role Descriptions.

Magazines - a meeting has been arranged for Tuesday 19th May at GCH at which representatives of both publications will chat about the way ahead.

Basis of Union - work continues

Points raised by MP - the  Congregational Action Plan will cover the Vision aspect. The union presents us with  great opportunities to develop and grow.

Elders - both Congregations are represented as follows, Currie has 23 elders; 13 women and 10 men. Balerno has 34 elders; 16 women and 18 men

It was agreed that the last two items be moved further up the Agenda to allow more time for discussion.

The next meeting will be on Wednesday 13th May  at Shepherd Room, BPC
